A song is a lyrical poem which is sung with the playing of some musical instrument. It is a very old form of literature which is passed from one generation to the other generation.
In the beginning when people could not read and write, songs were passed from one to another orally. These were popular among people, and these are called folk songs. When people could read and write they began to compose songs in written forms so they are found printed in the book form. The songs are divided into many groups as folk songs, sentimental songs, classical songs, evergreen songs etc.
