An image is a mental picture of a person, animal, or object summoned up by a word, phrase, or sentence. An image is a picture that poetic description creates in the mind of the reader.
An author can use figurative language, such as metaphors and similes to create images as clear as the physical presence of objects and ideas themselves. The images are often visual, but may appeal to any of our senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste and tough. The images in a particular poem not only create vivid mental pictures in the mind of the readers but also they can be impressive and memorable.
